There is a large area for accessible parking space about 300-350 feet away from the main accessible entrance.

The surface of the parking lot is asphalt and the space for accessible parking is relatively flat.

There are no markings on the pavement to identify individual spaces or access aisles.

There are no spaces marked as van accessible.

The signage for the parking space is slightly below 60 inches, and there are no wheel stops.

The pathway from the parking lot to the accessible entrance of the property is mostly smooth asphalt and stone-like sidewalk that is step and barrier free, with a few changes in level between some of the stone pavers, and where the surface transitions from stone to asphalt.

The surface of the location’s outdoor paths are mostly stone paver paths and gravel paths that can be uneven in spots, with a step up or down here or there.

The width of the pathways to various entry points are at least 36-60 inches wide in most places.

There are several portable ramps and some more permanent ramps available for those who need them to access the property and various buildings- the portable ramps can be brought out and placed in various areas upon request.

The slope of the ramps will vary depending on the height of the step into the building and the length of the ramp.

Directional signage from parking to the entrance of the site as a whole is minimal.

The maneuvering clearances next to the door at the top of the ramp by the Williams room is less than 10 inches, and almost all of the interior doors have knobs to open and close them.

Some of the interior spaces are dimly lit, which may be challenging for some, but there are a few flashlights, which are often used by tour guides.

There are picture books/guides that are available, as well as a 3D model of the house that allow individuals to experience the upstairs space if stairs are a challenge.

Stairs in the main building, to and on, the second floor, and staircases throughout the garden space may be a challenge for some individuals as they are lacking handrails at some points, or only have handrails on one side, and many of the staircases have no handrail extensions.

The point of sale counter in the main building and the gift shop are both slightly above 48 inches, but staff can provide assistance with credit card purchases if needed.

There is some merchandise in the visitor center that may be difficult to reach for some as it is above 48 inches from the floor, but there are a few grabber tools available which may help, and staff is able to assist if needed.

The site is generally not too noisy.

There are quiet spaces available in the Williams Room and the gardens.

There are several single stall, gender neutral restrooms, two of which can accommodate a wheelchair and have grab bars around the toilet, and both are located near the Williams room in the main building.

Signage for each restroom says “restroom” with good contrast, but there is no braille or tactile alternative on the signs.

The maneuvering clearances around the doors are limited due to the width of the hallway being 39 inches on the outside, and the location of the sink immediately adjacent to the door on the inside.

The door hardware and locking mechanisms require tight grasping, pinching, and twisting of the wrist to operate.

The interior of each restroom is somewhat narrow and tight space wise, measuring about 70 inches wide and 65 inches deep, but can accommodate a T-shaped turning space.

There are grab bars at good heights next to and behind each toilet, about 37 inches off of the floor.

The sinks, soap, and paper towel dispenser are at accessible heights, and the light switches are slightly above inches from the floor.

Be mindful of some exposed piping under the sinks.

There are several portable ramps to help with access to various buildings and areas around the property if steps present a challenge.

There is a wheelchair and folding chair available upon request, although supply is limited.

There is a white board and markers available as an alternative form of communication if needed.

Guests can experience the upstairs space through pictures and a model of the house if they are unable to navigate steps.
